Momma’s New Husband

He gave her all of himself
She gave him all she had left
Parts of her had been torn out
Pieces of soul paid the toll
For little loves now far away

Sweet innocent pink faces
She’d rocked and nursed
Fashioned tales for
Helped rehearse
‘Til each bird flew off
Carrying a good luck charm
Fashioned with their mother’s
Love and a piece of her soul
Tucked under their wings
Souring high enjoying
The sun and the flight

She was a mother first
She was a woman second
She was grateful he understood
